Speaker: Lourie Center School, Lourie Center School Team

How is The Lourie Center unique in the field of education?

Lourie Center School: We are a trauma informed school program that provides support for our students and are unique in that we train and develop our own staff to be able to support students who've experienced a wide variety of different challenges in their lives. We are also an attachment focused program, meaning that we start with the relationships that our staff members develop with our students. They have to feel that there are people that they feel safe and secure with before they're going to be willing to try new things, learn new skills and face academic challenges.

What is your favorite thing about working with The Lourie Center?

Lourie Center School: Two of the strongest things that we value here are work-life balance and self care so that all of our staff can come every day happy and ready to work and see the growth in each other and in our students, it makes this place a valued place to work and a team, not just a team, but a family.

What is your "why"?

Lourie Center School: One of our main goals at the Lourie Center School is to help students enjoy coming to school again. We want them to enjoy learning and be able to experience a level of growth and change that they may not have been able to before. We want them to - through their relationship with their teachers and staff, be able to take academic risks, face challenges and use new skills and strategies so that they can return back to their home, school or a similar setting.

We know what you do for The Lourie Center. What has the center done for you?

Lourie Center School: It's given me hope for the field of education. Um, it's nice to work at a place and, and see people who do what works and do what's best for the kids. It's nice to work in a place that's doing what research says works, that puts the needs of the families and the kids first and supports one another every day. And it's nice to really feel like I'm part of something that's growing and something that's meaningful.
