Speaker: Jean Costa, Branch Director

What do you love the most about working for Adventist HealthCare?

Jean Costa: What I love about working at Adventist HealthCare is our commitment to living out our mission of extending God's care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing. I see us prioritize our patients clinical needs and focus on delivering compassionate care on a daily basis. And our employee engagement is very important to us. I'm proud to say that we have been recognized two years in a row by the Washington Post as one of the best places to work in the region.

Can you tell us what it is like to work for the Home Health team?

Jean Costa: Working in our Department of Home Health gives our clinicians flexibility in their schedule that they might not have when working in a hospital or in a clinic. It also allows them the ability to work one on one with their patient in the comfort of their own home to help facilitate healing.

What is a day in the life like on your team?

Jean Costa: So our clinicians receive their patient assignments in advance, they call their patients individually to set up uh the patients uh appointment times, they travel from patients home to home - providing skilled intervention based on the patient needs. Much of what they do is collaboration and coordinating with other team members and physicians and their documentation is typically completed while in the home or later that evening.

What is one thing you would like to share with someone who is joining this team?

Jean Costa: So home care is a very challenging yet rewarding place to work. Some of the things that we look for in people that we hire are that they're very confident in their skills and also very well organized and they are the eyes and the ears of the physician when they are in the home with the patient. So they need to be able to report accurate findings and also identify new treatments that might be appropriate to help prevent hospitalizations.
