Speaker: Colette Calomeris, Occupational Therapist, Adventist HealthCare

What's your name and what does a typical day at work look like?

Colette Calomeris: Hi, my name is Colette Calomeris. I am an occupational therapist here at rehab in Rockville. I have been with Adventist for nearly five years and will celebrate my five year work. Anniversary in September.

Why did you choose this career and what's the best part of your job?

Colette Calomeris: I chose occupational therapy because I love being able to help people get back to doing what they love and what's important to them. Um The best part of my job is meeting so many different people, seeing so many different diagnoses and being able to help them all.

What's the best part of working for Adventist HealthCare?

Colette Calomeris: The fact that Adventist has been so supportive in um expanding our facility dog program so that we can have a facility dog here at Rockville has been amazing and that is very special and I think it will benefit all of our patients here.

What's one tip to live a healthier, happier life?

Colette Calomeris: My tip for a happier and healthier life would be to own an animal. Uh, I have two cats at home and the dog on the way. I think that animals keep people moving, keep people engaged in their life and they really give you a reason to wake up every day.

What advice do you have for others considering this career path?

Colette Calomeris: My advice for anyone going into occupational therapy or any of the health related fields would be to continue your education and continue learning throughout your career. Um If I had not continued learning, I never would have thought about being a facility dog handler and really expanding my career. So there are many opportunities out there. You just have to find them.
