What is one important health tip you would recommend for women?
Avni Jain, MD: The most important health tip that I would like to give to women is that you are very important and you need to take care of yourself as well. I'm guilty of that myself too because we as caregivers, moms wives don't put ourselves in front of others. So please take care of yourselves.
Why is it important for women to visit their Primary Care Physician?
Avni Jain, MD: It is very important for us women to see our primary care provider for various reasons. Number one, it gives us an opportunity to form a relationship with our provider. Number two, when you see your provider for um your physicals, they do the age appropriate screenings, give you the age appropriate vaccines and do blood work many times on those screenings and blood work, we pick up new diagnoses uh which for which treatment is very important.
What questions should women be asking their Primary Care Physician?
Avni Jain, MD: So regarding the questions that women should be asking their primary care provider is know your numbers, um know what's normal for, you know, what's your normal BMI, What's your normal blood pressure? Uh know what's normal A1C cholesterol and uh what should be the numbers. You also know your family history and talk to your doctor about any age appropriate screenings um when it pertains to your family history. Um If you have any questions or concerns, it's always a good idea to make a list of those and talk to your primary care provider about it.
What are some things women can do to stay on top of their health?
Avni Jain, MD: So what are some things that women can do to take care of themselves? I think the number one thing that would hold good for me also is take time to do things that you like the most that is very important for our mental and physical health. Then of course, get enough exercise at least 30 minutes, 5 to 6 times a week. If you like walking outside, go for that. If you like biking doing things as a family, make it a family activity, um, eating healthy, very important, getting enough sleep at night, um, 7 to 8 hours of sleep at night, um, drinking enough water and then just remember that your mental health is as important as your physical health. So take care of that.
