Speaker: Meaghan & Doug

Introduce yourselves!

Meaghan & Doug: Hi, I'm Megan. Hi, I'm Doug. And we live on the coast of South Carolina in Mount Pleasant, which is right outside of Charleston. We're about five minutes from the beach. I'm a nuclear engineer and the team I manage trains, navy sailors, how to operate submarines and aircraft carriers. And I'm a veterinary practice manager for a veterinary dermatology clinic. Yes, that's right. It's dermatology for dogs. Thank you for taking a couple minutes to get to know us and we're really grateful for the opportunity. Yes. Thank you.

When thinking about the future, what type of relationship do you hope to have with your child's birth family?

Meaghan & Doug: So we hope to have an open adoption, the more opportunities for your child to be surrounded by love and family, the better we envision sharing things like pictures, birthday cards, facetime calls, even like birthday parties and visits really to whatever extent you're comfortable with. We really want to support your continued relationship with your child, birth family, adoptive family. The more the merrier. Absolutely.

What one word describes your family best? Why?

Meaghan & Doug: So the word that best describes us is empathy and Griffin here decided to join us mainly. So he stopped barking. So thinking about how, what we do affects other people, how we interact with them is kind of a core part of how we approach, interacting with people making decisions. All those things. Yeah. And compassion has been a huge way that we deal with our struggles and we've been really compassionate with each other throughout our struggles. And that's been a huge just part of how we got through those together. Yeah. Another one of our favorite quotes is actually be compassionate, not judgmental. That's from if you watch Ted Lasso, that's where that quotes from, but it does hold true to what we feel. So it's a good one and that's what describes us. Griffin, Say goodbye.

What makes your family stand out?

Meaghan & Doug: I think what sets us apart, is our passion for adventure. So we love to go new places, try new things, explore new foods, meet new people and experience new cultures. Yeah. Some of our favorites have been Italy. We went to Florence and went all through like the Amalfi Coast. One of the most amazing adventures was hiking through a glacier in Iceland and Germany was fun. We love the mountains, going hiking in Maine and North Carolina, California. And, you know, we look forward to being able to take family vacations and seeing national Parks and the Grand Canyon and all those things. Yeah. We want to go to all the national parks and I feel like when we have a child it's only going to be more special because we're going to be seeing it through their eyes and even if it's something that we've seen before, it'll be the first time for them and it will be that it would just be magical.
