Speaker: Sophia Cheng

Sophia Cheng: Hi, my name is Sophia Chang, and I'm currently a pre-med student in college. She was really interested in getting involved in healthcare work. Um, this course was amazing because it allowed me to become a medical assistant on my own terms. As someone who was already taking 5 classes during the semester, I didn't really have the time to dedicate myself to an extremely time intensive class to get certified. Um, and so I'm really glad that I had access to this course for a whole year to learn on my own terms.

Describe your overall experience completing the ACT program. What stood out to you the most?

Sophia Cheng: I think the best part about this course was the amount of study materials it gave to prepare for the national certification exam. Um, you get full access to so many NHA practice exams and study guides, which I found to be really helpful in preparing for the overall exam. Um, I also loved how responsive the instructors were. Uh, they graded assignments and responded to emails so quickly, so I felt very supported throughout the course.

How did the interactive activities impact your learning?

Sophia Cheng: I think the interactive activities were very helpful. Um, I especially liked the clinic simulation activities because it placed you in a real-world scenario in which you had to think through each situation step by step like an actual medical assistant. Um, I think these activities were also great for active recall because they made you think back on the material that you learned previously so that your learning was not just passive, um, and I think that this was extremely helpful in preparing for the final exam.

In what ways did ACT make you feel supported?

Sophia Cheng: I think that ACT provided so many different ways to contact instructors and ask questions. Um, there were many different people that you could email about course questions and they always responded so quickly. Uh, the feedback on the assignments was also very helpful, I think. The instructors were very encouraging with their feedback, but also provided, um, specific and useful instructions on how to improve, which I found very useful.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering enrolling in an ACT program?

Sophia Cheng: If you are thinking about enrolling in ACT, I think you should definitely just do it, um, because you can completely control your own learning and finish the course on your own terms. I personally felt very, very well prepared for the national certification exam, and I think if it wasn't for this course, I would have been so much more disorganized and confused about what exactly to study to get certified. Um, because of the course activities, I also feel so much more prepared to be an actual medical assistant in real world scenarios.
