Shaylynne Swift: Hi, my name is Shay Swift, and I took the Advanced e-clinical medical assistant course because I need something that I could work on asynchronously and at my own pace. I was just previously a freshman in college and I understood that there was going to be a lot of academic challenges coming with that, so I needed something that would be more catered to me and work a bit more flexible with my schedule, and this course has been absolutely perfect for me, and I'm so glad that I signed up for it.
Describe your overall experience completing the ACT program. What stood out to you the most?
Shaylynne Swift: My experience with the advanced e-clinical training course was very engaging, and my favorite part about it was that they would help guide you through a lot of the harder topics, but then there were also opportunities to be tested on them. I gained my confidence from knowing exactly what I know and what I do not know, and this course was perfect at showing me areas that I struggle with and areas that I excel with, and that ultimately helped me.
How did the interactive activities (like quizzes, infographics, and clinical challenges) impact your learning?
Shaylynne Swift: I love how diverse the course was. My favorite part about it was taking notes on all of the infographics that were given, that was given at the beginning of each module, and so I like just kind of setting up all my knowledge before actually diving into the practice, and I think that the circulation of everything within each module really worked very cohesively, getting the notes, then being more engaging and doing some practice, and then ultimately having like a quiz or practice sheet at the end. It worked.
In what ways did ACT make you feel supported, even though the program was online?
Shaylynne Swift: I felt incredibly supported while taking this course. I had a couple mistakes that were thankfully caught and worked through, and that's given to you by an email. It will say that like your assignment was rejected and honestly it was all my own doing. For one of them I submitted the entirely wrong assignment that should have been submitted to the Dropbox before and I just switched them, but I got a lovely email from Romaldo and I get an email. From him every single time an assignment was accepted as well, and I just love this part of the interaction because it's a little bit more personable than just watching a video or just reading something on the screen is that I actually was getting live feedback and live encouragement straight to my inbox and it was awesome. So I really appreciate that during this course.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering enrolling in an ACT program?
Shaylynne Swift: If you're thinking about enrolling in this course, my biggest advice to you would honestly just be to do it. I think that it was extremely empowering for me to know that not only am I also doing all the things that life entails, but I'm also furthering my education and I'm getting certified. As something, and I think that that's really cool because not many kids can say that at my age, and I would also like, honestly recommend all the times that you say you don't want to do the course, you don't want to complete that module or you don't want to do whatever, you should do it. I honestly finished mine at the very last second and it was incredibly stressful and I want to avoid that for you. You have an entire year. You can finish it so fast if you'd like to. Also, do all the practice exams before you take the actual final quiz. They're there for a reason. You'll see questions that actually show up on the quiz, and you'll feel more confident in yourself if that you did all of them and your scores were great because I know they will be. Best of luck.
