Speaker: Cayla Poborsky
Can you introduce yourself, and tell us a little bit about you?
Cayla Poborsky: Hi, my name is Cayla Poborsky and I'm new to the event co-ordination team with ACI so excited to be getting started and a little about me, I'm from central PA. I live about 20 minutes from Hershey and Hershey Park. So that's always a great place to take people to for visits and for entertainment and lots of chocolate and candy. I've also lived in Florida, California and Thailand. So I do like warmer climates as well. But born and raised here in PA. So, always seem to transplant back home after, after so long. In my free time, I like to travel and I'm always up to try out new events and new places. I'm very involved with my local community and part of a small group where we put on different events for our small town. So we actually are doing an antique car show in about three weeks, four weeks. And, we usually get several 100 cars that come out for that and we have really cool trophies and prizes for everybody. It's a great time. So I enjoy doing community events and and planning and executing those. I also have three dogs, a Frenchie, a Standard Poodle and a Bernedoodle. And, we like to go on trips together and I'm always taking them to new places, outdoor or dog friendly, indoor. So spend a lot of time active with them and also with my family who are scattered throughout the area. I used to be an English and ESL teacher. So I did that for several years and lived in Asia for several years. And I also had some experience in the business world working in retail and ecommerce. And more recently in the past few years, I've been working a lot with events virtual and in-person, as well as producing, which has been mostly virtual. So super excited to be with ACI I've worked with legal teams for education and CE purposes for production as well as working with medical coding and in the entertainment industry with culinary and different events that can be done online. So super excited to be here and get to learn more on the IT tech side and looking forward to working with everyone.
What got you into your field and why were you drawn to the kind of work you do?
Cayla Poborsky: I actually spent a lot of time in the virtual world pre-COVID, which is different. I feel now that we're post, a lot of people have plenty of experience now. But years and years ago, I started out my very first ESL teaching on Skype and working with students in South Korea on a platform and that inspired me to actually want to go live abroad. So I did that. And then during COVID is when I, I decided to get back into more of the, the virtual realm, partly by choice, partly by design and I just haven't left. because it's just kind of seemed to work out very well. So what's drawn me into the virtual event space is just I enjoy the planning and then seeing the fruits of your labor come through with the execution. So it's exciting for me to whether I'm the face of it or on the back end just to be part of that whole process. And it just really opens up so many more opportunities and a lot of ways to be able to do things with people from all over the country or all over the world. that just maybe wouldn't be as easy to coordinate traditionally. So being on the logistics scene in the virtual realm is just something that I get really fired up about. And I like seeing things play out and being part of that process.
Why did you choose ACI Learning for this next step in your career journey?
Cayla Poborsky: I picked ACI when I found a job posting, I believe on indeed. And it was for this position, which is a, a temporary event coordinator and just researching the company and then getting to meet with the recruiting team and then the people who work on the side. As I was doing the interviews, I just realized that this would be a really tight knit team to, to join in, even if it's temporary and I would get to learn a lot and use some of the skills that I already have in Salesforce and some of the other programs I'm already familiar with. And I think that I will fit in well, because I do like to be very meticulous with making sure that all the information and data is where it's supposed to be. But I also enjoy troubleshooting, which can be a little nerve-wracking at the same time. So maybe it's a double edged sword. But I like to, to be part of the team that can jump in and, and fix things when unexpected things arise or when you have to make really quick decisions or pivot. I like to, to be pretty proactive in those areas. So that is another part of this role that I think I'll hopefully be a good asset to as well as just my experience working with a bunch of different virtual productions. I think that this should be well suited for me and I'm really excited to be here in the interim.
Tell us a quirky fun fact about you or your life!
Cayla Poborsky: So recently I have been exploring a lot of holistic approaches to pretty much any area of my life. I've always been very conscious of taking certain types of vitamins. But now I've expanded that into more of food, skin care, overall health care. all kinds of really intriguing stuff that I would have not even thought to do or wanted to maybe try to do a few years ago. For example, I'm learning how to make my own beef tallow face cream. So did not think I would be saying that a few years ago or even a few months ago. But the more I learn about it and understand the benefits, it's all starting to make sense to me. So that is something that I've not perfected yet. I've had a few attempts. But I'm gonna get it right. And I also like making lava bead jewelry. I don't consider myself an overly crafty person, but this is in my wheelhouse and you can use the beads with essential oils. They, they kind of hold and absorb it. So it's another fun thing to experiment with and I love making like custom blends for people and seeing if it makes them happier or feel better or just as nice to, to wear. So that's probably one of the more interesting things about me.
Finally, is there anything else you want us to know about you or that you want to say?
Cayla Poborsky: Overall, I am just very grateful to get to have this opportunity for the next few months with ACI and I am looking forward to meeting the rest of the team that I'll be working with and be here as a support for this position. So I hope that I get to meet most of you and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out, look forward to connecting.
