Speaker: Alexandra Smith, Technical Instructor
Introduce yourself! What is your role and how long have you been with ACI Learning?
Alexandra Smith: Hi, my name is Alexandra Smith. I am one of the technical instructors at the Dallas campus and I have been with ACI for about the last two years.
What does safety mean to you?
Alexandra Smith: Safety means a lot to me, especially being a new mother. My son is about a year old and I realized that there's quite a lot of things that I didn't know about safety just in general. So I figured bringing that safety concept to others is really important as well. Safety means a lot because that's what keeps us going from day to day and helps us do our jobs, not only the most efficiently, but also keeping ourselves healthy well and happy.
As a member of the Safety Committee, what is one way you plan on ensuring safety for all ACI team members and students?
Alexandra Smith: As a member of the safety committee, one of the ways that I want to help spread safety for all of our team members, not just those of us in person, but also those of us working remote and for our students, both in person and remote is through education. As an instructor, I realized that you don't know what you don't know until you learn it. So we have to kind of educate ourselves about the things that are going on around us and be able to recognize the ways that we can better protect, not only ourselves but those around us.
What is one initiative of the Safety Committee that is most exciting for you?
Alexandra Smith: I think the initiative that is the most exciting for me for the safety committee is the idea that we're not just looking at physical safety because, yeah, most people think about job safety in person. Uh but we don't really think about it from a remote perspective all that often because we're at home. What, you know, what dangers are there at home? When in reality, there's actually quite a few that most people don't think about on a regular basis. So I think that bridging the gap between in person on site work and safety in those environments to a remote environment as well and, and including everybody, not just those of us in person, but everybody in remote work, in person work, in all aspects of the company. I think this is really an exciting thing to me to be able to kind of unite this idea of safety for everybody, not just those of us in person.
