Women's History Month

How do you inspire inclusion to create pathways for women to thrive at work and beyond?

I invite the whole woman to work by that. I mean, a, a woman is far more than her skills and qualifications. Um She has an identity, she has a culture, she has hopes and dreams and fears. So I think we need to challenge ourselves and challenge each other. Uh to be really clear about where we wanna go, how we wanna get there and how to ask for what we want for our lives. Um Be curious, be coachable, be confident and be consistent and probably the last one is my biggest. All those things, coachability, curiosity and confidence, don't just show up overnight. They take time, they take energy and they take effort and sometimes they take blood, sweat and tears. I believe that in order to inspire inclusion and create pathways for women to thrive at work and beyond, you should approach it in a multifaceted way. If you're in a leadership position, be the change that you want to see. Set an example by advocating for female colleagues, facilitating mentorship and networking opportunities, actively participating in and supporting diversity and inclusion programs and doing your part to address unconscious bias in the workplace. Diversity is the presence of differences and inclusion is the act of making those differences count. So even if you walk into the room and you're the only woman in there, make sure you make your presence count. Creating an environment that's safe, collaborative and accommodating for all women, of all backgrounds, especially women of color will lead to a more innovative, productive and inclusive work culture. First, inspiring inclusion to me means that we're allowing space, we're allowing a opportunity for people to voice their opinions from you. Even if you're early in your career, you can help someone who's just starting out with all that you've already learned by advocating for a flexible and supportive work environment. It allows us to meet those responsibilities without shouldering that internal guilt investing in women and accelerating progress starts with paving pathways for women of all backgrounds and all levels of experience to have a seat at the table. Sometimes this comes in the form of unblocking that path by specifically pushing for a woman to lead a high visibility project.
