Speaker: Brenda Sampson, MA, LPCC, Overcomers Counseling

Brenda Sampson, MA, LPCC: My ultimate goal is to help you feel more empowered and capable of handling life's challenges.

Tell us a little about yourself and your background.

Brenda Sampson, MA, LPCC: Hi, thank you for joining me. My journey in becoming a therapeutic clinician started with a passion for helping people find their voice and navigate challenging times. I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from Colorado Christian University. I also earned an applied Behavioral Psychology master's degree from Liberty University. I am a licensed professional counselor candidate in the state of Colorado currently. Over my 3 years in practice, I've had the privilege of working with a wide range of individuals. My experience has shown me that the most effective therapy is a person-centered partnership. Where I can give you unconditional positive regard. I believe in creating a safe and non-judgmental space where you feel heard, understood. And empowered to make the changes you want to see in your life.

What kinds of challenges do you specialize in helping people with?

Brenda Sampson, MA, LPCC: My work primarily focuses on the helping with symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, life changes and challenges that come our way. This often includes helping clients manage feelings of being overwhelmed, navigating big decisions like a new job or a relationship, or even just finding a sense of balance in life. I also have a lot of experience in grief and loss, helping people process difficult emotions and helping them find a way forward after losing a loved one.

How would you describe your style or approach to therapy?

Brenda Sampson, MA, LPCC: My style of counseling is a collaborative approach. I see our sessions as a partnership where we work together to figure out what's going on and what we wanted to achieve together. I'm not here to just sit back and listen. I'm an active participant. I'll ask a lot of questions to help you explore your thoughts and feelings and to help me understand. And I'll often offer insight or different perspectives for you to consider. And I use a mixture of practical evidence-based techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy, CBT, emotional freedom therapy, Along with, which is EFT along with internal family systems, IFS and eye movement desensitization reprocessing, which is EMDR to help with processing your thoughts and emotions and mindfulness techniques I use to help with grounding. So it is not a one size fits all approach with therapy. It is really about your unique experiences and tailoring our work to fit what you, your therapeutic need is.

What do you hope to achieve with your clients in therapy?

Brenda Sampson, MA, LPCC: My ultimate goal is to help you feel more empowered and capable of handling life's challenges. I want to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself. I want you to understand what drives you, what holds you back, and what you truly value. By exploring these things together, we can identify and work on patterns that aren't serving you well. And we can change those together if you're willing. I hope to see you soon.
