Speaker: Matthew P. Abdel, M.D., Andrew Sugg Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Mayo Clinic
Matthew P. Abdel, M.D.: Hi, this is Matt Abdel from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, and I'm thrilled to welcome you to the 2025 Annual Meeting of AAOS.
Matthew P. Abdel, M.D.: While at AAOS, I'll be talking on a variety of topics, including primary revision, hip and knee arthroplasty, both aseptic and septic failure mechanisms. One of the areas I'm most excited is our AAOS symposium on periprosthetic joint infections of both the hip and the knee in which we uniquely combine them together, and we're looking at the latest and greatest in diagnostics, everything related to antibiotics in the operating room and after the operating room. Articulating and non-articulating spacers and the controversies in destination spacers what I call 0.5-stage exchange, one-stage exchange, and two-stage exchange arthroplasty, as well as the use of irrigation and debridement with component retention and antibiotics for acute periprosthetic joint infections.
