Speaker: Elizabeth Gausden, MD, Moderator, Symp A - Disaster-plasty

Elizabeth Gausden, MD: Hi, I'm Elizabeth Gausden, and I'm an arthroplasty surgeon, who also specializes in trauma surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. At the Academy this year, I'm going to be moderating a session called Disaster-plasty. It'll be a group of both arthroplasty as well as trauma surgeons discussing cases that are most challenging that require skill set from both of these specialties. A lot of these cases, there's not one right answer. There'll be great debate and a lot to learn. I think participants after this session will have a better grasp of how to leverage both trauma as well as arthroplasty skill sets to help these patients in these most difficult situations. A lot of the faculty have some strong opinions. There's going to be great debate and I don't think you're going to want to miss it. I think this symposium is the type of symposium that really highlights what you get with the Academy that you don't get at subspecialty meetings. And that's a confluence or a coming together of multiple specialties in these areas where there is cross section. So I don't think any subspecialty meeting has as much volume and breadth of expertise that we get at the Academy Annual Meeting.
