Speaker: Anish R. Kadakia, MD, FAAOS, Moderator, ICL 404: Management of Common Complications of Foot and Ankle Surgery

Anish R. Kadakia, MD, FAAOS: Hi, my name is Anish Kadakia. I'm a professor of orthopaedic surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Anish R. Kadakia, MD, FAAOS: Our ICL on management of complications of foot and ankle helps you understand how to deal with those difficulties that we face in practice that we don't really want to share and talk about. But it's an open forum to learn and understand and improve how we treat our patients.

Anish R. Kadakia, MD, FAAOS: The number one insight you'll get after coming to our ICL is how to prevent complications. In addition, how to treat the nonunion malunion when they occur, even in the best of hands.

Anish R. Kadakia, MD, FAAOS: Our ICL is an open forum with honest discussion of our own complications. It is not really to show off what we can do. It's an opening of our practice and how we have had struggles like everybody has and how we have learned to deal with them so we can share our experience with you so that you don't have to hopefully have the same struggles.

Anish R. Kadakia, MD, FAAOS: The Annual Meeting has the ability to get people from all over the country to talk about different practices and also help integrate trauma with sports with foot and ankle. So you get a better understanding and a more cohesive approach to how we practice orthopaedics. As opposed to our specialty societies only where sometimes we're ultra focused only on foot and ankle. I think it allows us to interact more and get a better experience. And I always walk away learning at least 2 to 3 new things I take back to my practice.
