Speaker: Matthew E Gronendyke, IBEW Local 697 Test

Which test did you take and why you took it?

Matthew E Gronendyke: Uh, I took the Indiana Electricians Aptitude Test and I did it in attempts to get into the, uh, 697 union, uh, for electricians in Indiana.

Which section of the test was the most challenging for you?

Matthew E Gronendyke: Um the section that I had the most trouble with is probably going to be the algebra portion uh compared to the reading comprehension just because it's a time test. And so you only have about a minute and 20 seconds to answer each question. So it's just really important that you, you know, pick the questions that, you know, you're gonna be able to find the answer too quickly and move on and then go back with whatever extra time you have remaining at the end.

How was your overall testing experience?

Matthew E Gronendyke: Um my overall experience was good. It was definitely better with iPREP. Uh I don't think I would have passed without iPREP, but I did pass uh the very first time taking it. Um I did not receive a score. I just received a pass. So I'm not sure exactly how well I did. Um But I definitely felt a lot more confident going into it after preparing uh through iPREP.

How would you recommend future test takers get ready for the test?

Matthew E Gronendyke: The only recommendation I really have is is doing some sort of practice program like iPREP, uh I'm not sure if there are other ones out there. Uh, going through, iPREP really kind of, uh, re taught me the basics and taught me a couple of things that I'm not sure I even knew before. Um, I kind of went through the whole thing as if I didn't know any math just to make sure that I was able to write out long division, long subtraction, stuff like that. Uh, just to make sure that without a calculator, I'd be fine. Um, other than that, I'd say that it just helps you get ready for the, the timed aspect of it. Uh, you've got practice tests at the end that are mocks of the exact, uh, test that you're going to take. And so it kind of gets you in the mindset of which ones to skip and go back to later. Um, and exactly what it's going to feel like doing this test because it's also on the computer. It's very, very similar to the real thing. Uh So, yeah, this the iPREP is what I would recommend to use to get ready for the real thing.
