Speaker: Doyle S., PHD, Waukee, Iowa

Doyle S., PHD: Hello, my name is Doctor Doyle Scott, and I live in Waukee, Iowa.

What's Your Personal Connection to Alzheimer's?

Doyle S., PHD: On December 6th, 2023, I had my first infusion of a drug called LEQEMBI® which had been developed to slow down the progression of Alzheimer's. Because I was one of the first ones in the city in the state to receive this, I had to get approval from Medicare and Eisai the company who makes the drug. No one wanted the first patient in our area to be a failure, so I guess I was one of the guinea pigs. That also meant that things I loved to do had to be stopped. I had to quit eating sugar. That meant no more junk food. I had to give up alcohol since it was full of sugar. I had to give up caffeine. In general, I just had to learn to eat healthy. I also had to up my exercise program and to purposefully play cognitive games that exercised my brain and helped me maintain my memory.

What Message Would You like to Share With Congress?

Doyle S., PHD: Early detection gives individuals more time to begin treatment, plan ahead, and seek support when it matters most. The ASAP Act is a practical, bipartisan step that will provide that time for the countless families, including many right here in Iowa, by providing Medicare with the authority to cover FDA approved Alzheimer's and dementia blood tests for screening. Representative Miller-Meeks. Please work to pass the ASAP Act by the end of the year.

Dr. Doyle is able to receive treatment because of early detection. Everyone deserves that chance. Congress, please advance the #ASAPAct
