Jacquie M. Bowen, O.D.: Optometry is, first and foremost, a health care profession as such. The AOA goes at it 24/7/365 to make sure we're at the table advocating for our ability to take care of our patients in the best possible way. Health care is a team sport now and many, many of the conditions we treat require collaboration with providers and other professions. My resolution for 2024 is to develop and deepen alliances with organizations similar to the AOA, who represent rheumatology, endocrinology, dentistry and others, with whom we coordinate care to achieve best outcomes for our patients. As an integral part of the health care community, we owe it to our patients to join their team and educate providers regarding our unique insight and skills while learning from others about how we can contribute.
