Speaker: Betsy Butler, Course Designer and Writer
What do you hope teachers will take away from this course?
Betsy Butler: Hi, I'm Betsy. I am the course designer for course 5258 which focuses on students with severe and multiple impairments. This course has such a great structure and really talks about how general educators can help students in uh students with severe and multiple impairments be included in the classroom and being able to measure progress in the classroom. This focuses on multisensory strategies, communication, and all sorts of other tips and tricks to make sure that students in mainstream classrooms feel like they can belong, that they can participate and that they can make progress on their goals for each day and each year.
What do you love about this course?
Betsy Butler: One of the things I really love about this course is that we built in practical perspectives. There's little chunks throughout the course that offer tips on etiquette and communicating with families and the difference between accommodations and modifications and even transitional help for families of students with severe, multiple severe and multiple impairments. And I think that for the general educator, I think that those tips are super helpful as you work to be inclusive and also to address any specific needs that students with severe and multiple impairments might have.
