My biggest advice is don't think of being a pharmacy technician as just a job you were hired to do. Learn everything you can, ask questions, be curious, get certified, add credentials, volunteer, join organizations, and then go to that conference, and then introduce yourself to people and find the person doing something interesting.

Meredy Ayers, CPhT-Adv
Events & Engagement Manager
The main thing is a combination of passion and hard work, being excited about what I'm doing, interested, engaged in what I'm doing, and then working hard to uh complete the tasks that are part of my everyday job.

Amanda Abernathy, MBA, CPhT, CPTed
Pharmacy Technician Training Program Manager
The advice that I would give to someone just getting started as a technician is to keep a handy dandy notebook. I know that probably sounds crazy, but honestly, there's so much for you to learn, whether you are learning in a classroom, learning on the job, you're going to have a lot of questions, and especially like in the pharmacy...

Keyerrá Buckley, CPhT
ACPE Administrator & Technical Trainer
"I really think that the certification kind of opened me to the entire world of pharmacy..."

Harrison Dang, PharmD, BAAS
Pharmacist, PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident
Finally, recognize that a pharmacy technician role can be much more than a job. It can be the foundation for a rewarding healthcare career. The experiences and skills you gain. Can lead to opportunities in leadership, informatics, healthcare technology, education, regulatory affairs, and so many other areas.
Josie Quick
Clinical Applications Support Analyst
Advice I'd have for somebody who's just getting started as a pharmacy technician is to ask questions. Don't be afraid to look like you don't know what you're doing. It's OK to ask questions.

Sarah Smith, PharmD, MBA, BCPS
Founder/CEO
...believe in yourself. Pharmacy technicians play a critical role in patient care and healthcare operations. There are more opportunities in this profession than ever, and your career can be whatever you make of it.

Caitlin Quigley, CPhT, DPLA
Head of Health-System Partnerships and Engagement
The advice I would give someone entering the technician field is to really explore your options. There's multiple different pathways for you to, work up to. So just really kind of explore what interests you the most. There's always new opportunities, opening for technicians almost every day, especially now, it's evolving faster than ever before.
