Speakers: Sharon Stallings, Instructional Aide, Desoto ISD; Southwest Dallas AFT member

Sharon Stallings: I urge Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees to vote and adopt a resolution that provides 10 days 10 days of COVID-19 paid leave.

At DeSoto ISD, Southwest Dallas AFT members fought for COVID-19 paid leave and won.

Now, they want Duncanville ISD to provide the same leave for their employees.

Sharon Stallings: My name is Sharon Stallings. I'm an Instructional Aide with DeSoto ISD. I am also a Southwest Dallas AFT member.

Sharon Stallings: 10 days of COVID-19 paid leave because It takes the burden off of the teachers, your staff members. For them not having to worry about "Oh my God, I have to go quarantine." "I don't have the leave days." Or "What if I get it again?"

Sharon Stallings: So, I'm very thankful that DeSoto ISD did go ahead and approve the COVID-19 paid leave. I think every district should do that. So.

Other districts in the area, such as Lancaster, ISD, and Dallas ISD have ensured their employees are compensated for a period of 10 days. We are understaffed, and it shows. This situation has escalated and worsened. It is my hope that DeSoto ISD implement the following changes to improve health safety and protocols for students, educators and staff.

Sharon Stallings: I mean, we take our families very seriously and the health and safety of the children, ourselves, family members, staff, whoever - everyone that is involved, everyone in the pot. So, everyone has a role to play when it comes to this, and we come to work and do our job to ensure that every child is safe. And we would like to be safe as well.

Sharon Stallings: In the event that I do have to use my 10 days of COVID leave, I know that I have that cushion to fall back on. I don't have to worry about it coming out of my pay.
