Speaker: Annalotta from Germany, Nechako Valley Secondary School, Grade 11

Why did you choose Rocky Mountain International Student Program for your study abroad experience?

Annalotta from Germany: Before I came here, I went to the library and looked through some pictures of different Canadian provinces, British Columbia, with its beautiful scenery and the Rocky Mountains stood out, particularly. That's why I thought the Rocky Mountain International Student Program would be a good fit for me.

What do you like best about the community you live in?

Annalotta from Germany: What I like most about the community life here in Vanderhoof is the nice atmosphere, No matter where you are, in the grocery store on school, there are always people smiling at you and saying hello, everyone here is just much more friendly, open and relaxed.

What do you like best about your school?

Annalotta from Germany: The thing I like most about school in Canada is the open and nice atmosphere and interaction between students and teachers. While in my home country, students and teachers tried to avoid talking to each other outside of school time. Here they often even have small talks. The atmosphere is just more relaxed and natural, and it's just a nicer feeling being in class like that.

What do you like best about your homestay?

Annalotta from Germany: My host family has a small farm far away from anything else. I really enjoy being surrounded by so many animals and so much nature. One day I was even able to see northern lights and observe elks in the backyard. That was fantastic.

What has been the best part of your experience with Rocky Mountain International Student Program?

Annalotta from Germany: At the very beginning of my stay in Canada, all the international students went together to the new ski area. The weather was amazing, and I really enjoyed the nice view on the surrounding lakes. Since I love skiing, this was my favorite activity with the Rocky Mountain International Student program.
