Speakers: Talley Wells, Executive Director, North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities

How can you help me?

Talley Wells: Hi everyone, this is Talley Wells. I'm the executive director of the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities and I have been convinced to put on our social media some answers to questions and what we are calling. Ask me anything. And today's question is a question that says, how can you assume? How can you the north Carolina Council on developmental disabilities, but how can you help me? So here's what the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disability does we advocate for the whole system in North Carolina to be better to meet the needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. That's what we do. What we don't do is actually provide the services and supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We provide a platform for self advocates to speak up. People with developmental disabilities and intellectual disabilities and their family members to speak up. We um provide a lot of resources and initiatives to improve the system and to advocate um for those improvements and we have a lot of places for you to get involved with us. One of the things that I'm really excited about right now is we have monthly public policy meetings each month um and if you can find the information for that on our calendar website, we have a self advocacy discussion series. You can find information for that on our website. You can find information um about all of our initiatives at N C C D D dot org. Um and then if you need supports and services, the place to go is the L M E M C O in your area and if you just google L M E M C O directory North Carolina, you should be able to find that pretty quickly and you can reach out to your L M E M C O for specific services and supports that you may need. But I hope you'll go and um be frequent follow up our social media of our website and part of the conversation here in North Carolina to support and advance um, everything for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live full and meaningful lives in North Carolina. Thank you.
