What was the best advice you were given as a nurse educator?
Dr. Sue Ann Maughmer, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC: The best advice that I was given as a nursing educator is to be a good listener. A lot of times we find out that we think we know what the student might be asking, but a lot of times we may be wrong. A lot of times we may be right, but not being a good listener, we will miss something and we want each of our students to be successful, and in order for a student to be successful, we need to listen to them and help them when they're asking for help. Don't just assume and don't think you know what they're saying. Being a good listener is key to being a good educator.
