What does receiving Spirit of State mean to you?
Carrington Davis: Hey, my name is Carrington Davis and I am a senior elementary education major from Columbus, Mississippi. And it is truly such an honor to receive uh a Spirit of State Award this year. My four years at here at Mississippi State have been just incredible, full of so many incredible experiences, so many um opportunities for so much growth. And I'm just so thankful for all the amazing people along the way that helped to make my time here so special. I think about so many uh professors, so many friends, uh organization advisors that I look at and I see the spirit of Mississippi State and I see the way that they have such a passion for this university um have so sacrificially given of themselves to help others have an incredible experience here. I've just seen the deep love um and, and I just have so much admiration for them and so to be identified or recognized as having that same spirit truly means the world. Um And I will forever be grateful for all that MSU has given me and I will cherish this honor and carry this spirit with me um for the rest of my life.
What has been your most rewarding experience at MSU?
Carrington Davis: The most rewarding experience that I've had here at Mississippi State, um was probably back in the fall of 2023. I had the opportunity to campaign for homecoming queen, and it was rewarding not at all because of the outcome, but honestly, just because of the process. I got to meet so many incredible people during those two weeks of campaigning from all around campus. Um And I, I knew I loved Mississippi State before, but I got to learn thousands of more reasons why it is so special. And it's really because of the people that make it special. Um I got to hear stories of how Mississippi State has, has changed their life, and I've heard stories about how they're better because of the time that they've had here in Mississippi State and the people that have made it so special. And so that was just so cool to learn that Mississippi State, not only it's just so special to me, but to so many other people. And it was evident how um impactful our time here at Mississippi State truly is. Um And that it was just, it was so cool, the support and the love that I felt from the people that I've met. And then also just from people that I would meet on the Drill Field and learn their, about their story. And, um, just see the love and the passion that they had for Mississippi State. It was just so rewarding.
In what ways can you continue to embody the Spirit of State?
Carrington Davis: I think that when you are um a student here at Mississippi State, you're not just a student or um a part of the family, just for these four years, you're part of the Mississippi State family for the rest of your life. And so I can continue to embody the spirit of MSU by just not leaving all the lessons and all the growth that I had here at Mississippi State. Um Just here on this campus, I can take it out with me in the world. Um I want to be a teacher and so I can go into my classroom and I can um take all of the things that I learned. I can share my passion for this university and all the wonderful things that it has given me. Um I can take all the, the attributes that I saw in people with the Spirit of State, their sacrifice, their love, their passion, um their humility into the rest of my life. And I can continue to embody those character traits that I have been so impactful to me during my time in all aspects of life. Um I'm never gonna stop being the biggest Mississippi State fan, sharing how much um how special this place is to me and how much of an impact that it's had in my life. Um No matter where I go. And so I think that's how I can continue to embody the Spirit of State just by continuing to share my story. Um Hopefully convincing all of my students to one day be um be students here at Mississippi, Mississippi State. Um It truly is just the best place in the world.
