Speaker: Harley R.
What led you to leave high school as a teen? What motivated you to go back to high school at this time in your life?
Harley R.: I left high school because I was 16 and I was in a very bad place. What motivated me to go back was because I wanted my diploma. I wanted to go to college, be a tattoo artist, to actually go do my dream. This program has really helped me do that.
Why did you choose this program?
Harley R.: I chose this program because it showed that it wasn't a scam because all the other programs you've had to pay for, and you had to get like a GED and I wanted my actual high school diploma. This program was free. It helped. I'm also in a full-time job, so I was able to do the work on my own time without having to worry about a certain time period to get my assignments done.
What parts of the program helped you make it to graduation?
Harley R.: What I liked about part of this program was that you have teachers that help you throughout the courses. So if you're needing help, you can call them, email them, text them, get in contact with them in a certain way, whatever is best for you, and it was very helpful because they can actually explain the assignment to you because I haven't been into school and I think like 5-6 years. So, of course, schooling is different now than it was back when I was 16. And these teachers actually really helped get you to understand what they're wanting you to do, so that they can get you to be successful.
How has your life and/or mindset changed since earning your high school diploma? What are your plans now that you've graduated?
Harley R.: This has changed so much for me. I'm now able to get into college. I got accepted to get into college to go and do cosmetology. So I can do and get my tattoo license, for my hair, nails, and stuff. It is something I've always wanted to do. Getting my diploma actually makes it feel so much better to get than you getting your GED. It's something that makes it worth getting and makes you feel like you've actually accomplished something.
What's one piece of encouragement you'd offer someone who is considering this program?
Harley R.: This program was free. It's on your own time management. You don't have to worry about someone getting onto you and telling you, hey, let's do this, let's go. They give you time, and if you need an extension on a certain courses that you haven't been able to get in time for, they give you that time period and they make sure to let you know. There's a calendar that helps you go week by week on what assignments to get done and like if you have kids, jobs, this program really helps work around that because you can get to it at any time you want to. It could be one, two in the morning, you getting off work and stuff. It is a very, very good program.
