Speaker: Destiny B.
What led you to leave high school as a teen? What motivated you to go back to high school at this time in your life?
Destiny B.: What led me to leave high school as a teen was I was in addiction, honestly, and it was really rough, so I decided to drop out and thought I would never go back. But then I found Graduation Alliance and I was very motivated to go back to high school due to the fact that I have two kids now. And didn't want to be a hypocrite when I told them that I felt it would be the best idea for them to go ahead and finish school.
Why did you choose this program?
Destiny B.: I chose Graduation Alliance because for one, it's a free program. They offer wonderful accommodations like, for instance, when I was struggling due to depression and a few other things, they helped me and got me a counselor, as well as that they do a lot of accommodations to help you finish school. They helped me out with letting me redo certain classes because I didn't get them finished on time due to pregnancy. There's no scheduled times for classes. And you can work at your own pace and pretty much do what you want first and then do what you don't want last or vice versa.
What parts of the program helped you make it to graduation?
Destiny B.: The part of Graduation Alliance that helped me the most with getting to my graduation would have to be my Academic Coach. my Academic Coach. She was absolutely wonderful and a great help when I needed to redo a class. She helped me out by putting that class back on so I could redo it and get it finished.
How has your life and/or mindset changed since earning your high school diploma? What are your plans now that you've graduated?
Destiny B.: Before I graduated with Graduation Alliance, I had the mindset that I would never be able to finish, that I wasn't good enough to finish high school. And earning my high school diploma through Graduation Alliance honestly boosted my confidence in a whole new way that I had never experienced before. I really encourage everybody to use Graduation Alliance if they feel like they can't get their diploma or if they have forks in the road or whatever. And my plans after graduation, I have now joined a college for a business administration so that I can start my own business, but I had to graduate high school and get my high school diploma in order to take the next steps that I need to take in order to start my own business.
What's one piece of encouragement you'd offer someone who is considering this program?
Destiny B.: The biggest encouragement I would offer for somebody who is considering this program is do it. Try your best, do what you need to do to graduate. Don't give up, because when you give up, you're not going to reach your goals in the long run.
