Speaker: Travis B.
Which certificate program did you choose and why? What did you hope to gain from it?
Travis B.: So the certification program I chose to go with was the RISE Up Business of Retail, and I chose that because I'm really interested in retail, business, e-commerce, things like that. And one thing that I hoped that I could gain from that program was just a deeper understanding of retail, internet consumerism, things in that nature.
Has your certificate inspired interest in a new career or given you the confidence to try something new? If so, how?
Travis B.: So after receiving my certification, it definitely inspired interest in a new career or definitely gave me the confidence to try different things, especially with my money, teaching me a little bit of financial literature. Definitely something that everybody around my age in their early twenties, I think that we should have coming out of high school because it can help us better moving on into adulthood.
How would you use the skills and insight you gained from this pathway to apply for a job? Has it helped you advance your career at all?
Travis B.: Definitely the skills and the insight that I learned from this program has definitely helped me to structure a resume better just, you know, simple things like word my vocabulary better when I'm in those certain settings around jobs. Honestly, ever since I left this school, I haven't not got hired, you know, so I just want to say thank you, and you know, it helped me advance my career a lot. I always say without this place I would have never been where I am in life.
What did you like best about the certificate program experience?
Travis B.: Definitely one thing that I like best about the certificate program experience was the way that, you know, they just laid out everything for me. They made it easy for me even coming into it. They, you know, explained to me, look, we're going to do this, that and third for you. They did that and beyond for me, and that was just helpful like how they planned it out and made it an organized thing. So I hadn't been in school for a little while up until that, so they just made it an easy transition and yeah, they turned me into the man I am today, so I thank this place for that.
What would you say to other learners who are considering enrolling in a certificate program? Any advice or encouragement?
Travis B.: One thing that I would definitely want to say to other learners who are considering enrolling in a certificate program is that, man, if you feel like you're too old, it's never too late. I started when I was 23. I got out when I was 24, changed my life for the better, you know, so it's never too late to, you know, chase your dreams and it's never too late to get your life right, you know, these people here, these teachers, these people, they care, you know what I'm saying? They care about teaching. And they care about making a difference, you know what I'm saying? So definitely just take the chance, take a chance for yourself, for your family, everybody around you to become a different person. It's worked wonderfully for me and I would just like to pass that blessing on to the next person, man. It's not even about a certificate. It's really about the journey in school when they just make it such a, a beautiful transition, such a beautiful thing, man. They do a real good job at it, man. Like if you're looking for that thing in your life, that, that moment, that epiphany to change your life forever, like this place is definitely that place, man.
