Speaker: Althea Sussman

Please introduce yourself in a couple of sentences.

Althea Sussman: Hello, everyone! My name is Althea Sussman and I'm a senior software consultant here at Dean Dorton. My background is in accounting and I did go back to school and earn my degree in computer science. I've been implementing accounting software for almost 25 years now. Starting with Quickbooks then Dynamics Great Plains and now Intacct for the last 12 years or so. For Intacct implementations, I mostly concentrate in the not-for-profit sector but I do support all sectors. A few fun facts about myself: My husband and I have three grown children between us and two grandchildren. We live in upstate New York, close to Saratoga Springs, not to New York City. We have two pandemic-era rescue dogs named Dingo and Cash. A few things that I like in no particular order: coffee, I enjoy doing yard work and I like cookouts. My husband cooks. In my work, I enjoy working with allocations and financials inside of Intacct and finding solutions for customers to save them time and frustration. Thank you and have a good day.

What led you to work with accounting software rather than doing traditional accounting work?

Althea Sussman: I did start with traditional accounting work, and found I was drawn to the software and that's when I decided to go back to school and, take computer science and get my degree and start working with software. And I ended up working with accounting software so I can speak both languages.

What are your superpowers – something you’re good at that others should know about?

Althea Sussman: I think that some of my superpowers are logic problems being able to think outside the box, being able to step back and, and see the whole issue and be able to figure that out and, and test out different methods to solve a problem.

Tell us what is at the top of your proverbial "bucket list."

Althea Sussman: One of the things at the top of my bucket list is probably to travel through Europe. Just to get the history. We always travel to tropical islands. But lately a lot of the excursions, we end up going to learn about the history of the island. because it's more interesting to me than sitting on a beach. But yeah, I'd like to travel around Europe, and get a deep history lesson there. And also the United States. Traveling around our country and finding out more about our history more than I learned in school.
