Speaker: Rami Tulp, Assistant Director for Intervention Programs

What were the main challenges you faced before partnering with Boardworks in regard to curriculum, instruction, and technology?

Rami Tulp: Nailing down the challenges Really looking at our kids who are struggling with first teach, struggling with content, have learning gaps. This is where teachers are then trying to support those students with specific lessons to meet the student where they're at. So one student might need support in another area that another student. So a teacher writing first teach lessons in addition to these supplemental lessons, it's just something that is so challenging. So being on the lookout at the district level for something that can support teachers when they are trying to close gaps, support their students and having a lesson readily available is something we're really looking for because that's a really big challenge for our teachers as they really want to support their students.

Could you describe a time that Boardworks had a positive and significant impact on your district?

Rami Tulp: Right after we rolled out Boardworks, my phone was ringing with such pleasant phone conversations of teachers, instructional coaches, leaders at campuses, so excited to have this resource at their fingertips so that they could meet students where they're at, have a variety of lessons to choose from and really be able to support their students. So I've got one in particular campus where an instructional coach reached out and she's got a variety of teachers, she's supporting first year teachers, experienced teachers who are working with students during something we call like an advisory or enrichment time, and she was trying to help her teachers come up with supplemental lessons that met a variety of students at where they're at. So the teachers were really trying to be creative and successful and engage their students. And it wasn't until she had Boardworks at her fingertips that she felt like she could really support her teachers with what they needed. So it was such a great conversation to have and to hear how they've been using it with their students and how they've been able to tailor different lessons to exactly what their students need.

How has Boardworks supported your teachers in preparing and delivering Math and Science interventions?

Rami Tulp: So often when you think about a teacher delivering a math or science intervention kind of think about the big picture here; is that this math or science teacher has been teaching first teach all day long, (typically). And now they're at the end of the day in an advisory enrichment time, a supplemental time to work with a group of students possibly or after school before school, or maybe it's in the middle of the day, but this is an additional lesson a teacher is doing and a teacher really wants to make it engaging, they want their students to enjoy it and they wanted to be you know, purposeful and there's so many layers, but they also want to help the student be successful with whatever concept that they're really struggling with. So now that we have had Boardworks, what I'm hearing from my campus is is that they have something that is engaging that, is purposeful for the concept they want to support the student with and they're able to do this with so much ease compared to before. And so it's really making a difference because I know that our teachers are feeling better as well as our students who are the ones participating in the content
