Speaker: Emily Johnstone

What's your background?

Emily Johnstone: My name's Emily, I'm the teammate of the Mid-Market Sales Development team and I've been Ada for just over nine months and I'm currently working out of Toronto.

What is the remote culture like at Ada?

Emily Johnstone: Ada's digital-first strategy really has something for everyone so whether you're someone who entirely likes to work at home, you can do that or if you're someone who likes to travel, you can go and work abroad. Many of our teammates have worked in Costa Rica or across Canada and more, and then there's people like myself who likes a bit of both. So we actually have a partnership with WeWork and I can come here for a couple days a week and also work from home on those other days. We do so many activities outside of work too that they'll fly people in and we can all come together to meet at least a couple of times a year so that you do get to know your team as well, and the onboarding process was honestly amazing. I didn't know what to expect because I've always onboarded in an office and in this case through the certification process, the Ada University and the buddy system, I felt that I was so well-equipped for my role when starting it.

What qualities do people need to be successful here at Ada?

Emily Johnstone: Things here Ada are always changing and that's because as we like to say that we really are on a rocket ship and growing so quickly and that's both on the SDR team and the company as a whole so it's really important for people to be flexible and agile and really willing to take initiative and leadership early on in their role which is a great personal growth opportunity as well. Then another thing is that just being a team player, the culture at Ada is one of its best things and is so amazing and you work so closely with all different departments so it's really important to be able to work cross functionally, but then also in the SDR team we all work so closely with each other, collaborating and helping each other succeed and celebrating our wins and lows so that is also a really important thing.

What do you love about working at Ada, and being part of the Business Development team?

Emily Johnstone: The best thing about being on the SDR team is hands down the people, we are all such hardworking and driven individuals but come from different backgrounds, we're able to learn from each other and continuously improve our own skill set but it's just such a great collaborative environment where we work together to help each other succeed. The other thing that's so great about this role is the growth opportunities so from Mid-Market SDR the number of opportunities are endless. Whether you're interested in exploring the sales group from going to enterprise from sales or if you want to learn about marketing or partnerships or in my case exploring the management roots. In just under eight months I was promoted to Team Lead so the opportunities are endless and it's such an exciting world to be a part of.
